Oh~ Melaka trip is over! I was looking forward to it for so long.... Here's what happened.

Wisata Ke Melaka 2006
( 27 May-29 May )

Day One

I woke up at an unearthly hour of 5.10am on a Saturday morning to get ready for the MOELC Melaka trip which is in its 2nd year running! Showered and got some last minute things ready and I was off! Reach MOELC @ abt 6.20am. The bus still hadnt arrived, so I hung around with my mom until Yiqi came (and with her mom too!) Got our tags and booklets. We arrived at the Singapore customs, which was so so HOT! I was perspiring like crazy! And my bag was so heavy! I cleared the M'sia customs pretty fast, coz I am a Malaysian citizen! Our bus is a HOT PINK bus with the words Cuti Cuti SHAN1 HE2 on it. We stopped at Yong Peng for awhile, and I was VERY tempted to buy the RM8 DVDS. After that we set off for Sarang Buaya.
First stop: Pineapple farm. There was quicksoil ther, and we jumped on it. It felt so spongy. Lucky nobody fell in. The pineapples were very sweet and delicious, but it was so juicy that when I bit into it, the cool juice trickled down my whole hand. Next, we went to see some Malay traditional instruments. There were three malay girls who danced for us with long faces, never once smiling and making me wonder whether they were forced to dance against their will. Saw a Tongkat Ali plant, and watched the pro malay men play the gasing, which is actually a wooden top. I attempted to set the top spinning twice, but only suceeded the first time. I bought one gasing for my brother. So nice right:) The oil palm plantation we went to next was quite boring initially, but became fun when we had to view this guy using a LONG stick to push the big big oil palm fruit. It fell to the ground with a loud thud, and was full of insects. Next was another plantation which grew many plants that I never knew existed. Eg: Black chilli plant. There was also curry leaf plant and coffe plant, among all others. Bought back some coffee powder for Daddy. We also saw how latex was taken from the rubber trees. Next stop: Gula Melaka farm. It is made from the nectar of a young coconut and somebody has to climb the coconut tree every morning to get it! So taxing! Bought back 1.5kg (the lady gave me abit more!) of gula melaka for my mother and ate the crust. Yiqi claims it makes her high and she ate ther crust off her own gula melaka. Finally LUNCH TIME! Ate at a local restaurant where the food was quite spicy and nice. Abit the first course is cold egg salad and watermelon. Next door was a shoe shop which attracted me because of its "BUY 1 GET 1 FREE" sign. Didnt buy anything in the end, and the salesman was so FREAKY! He kept follwing me around, recommending me to buy this shoe and that shoe. Then off to Melaka!
I slept for most of the journey there. Checked in at the Emperor Hotel in Room 1717 with Yiqi. We took a bath and then off for dinner @ a Peranakan restaurant called Bibik Neo. We had to sit with the MSP 3C & 4 students. Then hahaha! Ivan Ting was smitten with Yiqi, and oh! So funny! (Later you will see why) Went to Jonker Walk after that! Aarrggh! My favourite place! Yiqi bought this ENORMOUS Mickey Mouse bag, and like Ivan she was smitten with it. Oh then when we passed Ivan he was grinning at Yiqi and said "Hello Yiqi!" His friends were laughing at him and I was laughing at Yiqi:) I bought my onde-onde. We bought dim sum and Fatty carrot cake. Saw Aunty Lily and Tua Kor. Tua Kor bought us Honey Lime drinks. Then at the hotel room we called room service 3 times! First we wanted extra pillows, then it was mineral water, then it was because our sink was leaking! Changed hotel room to 1106. Then again as we were passing Ivan he grinned and said "Hello Yiqi!" :) Played cards with the girls and then off to sleep!

Day 2

Woke up @ 7am due to that irritating morning call. Lousy breakfast buffet @ 7.30am. The tea was also not very nice. Went to see Hang Tuah believed tomb at Klebang. Di gu's famous nasi lemak! Got bitten by alot of mosquitoes. Went to a Baba Nonya museum. I couldnt really understand what the curator was saying; she had a funny accent. But it was quite interesting seeing all those antique artefacts and foreign furniture. The museum was actually 3 houses combined into one, thus it was very big. I saw a 163 yrs old Henessys cognac!! Buffet lunch at the Straits Meridian hotel, but I didnt see that Simon whatshisname. Ate so much and was so full! Kampung cantik after that. We saw a silat performance and learnt the steps. Then I realised that my butt was spotted with mud! So gross! Brown spots all over my butt! I attempted to make a ketupat casing, but gave up after the lady was so inattentive to me. I decided there and then that if I ever needed ketupats I will buy them. The guide Shanti showed us around to see several homegrown plants. Vivian called me as I was under a nutmeg tree. Isnt there a song abt a nutmeg tree? Shanti showed us several ways to tie a sarong, and I bought a handpainted one for my mother. Cost RM 50 but we bargained to RM40. Then we went to see the rubber trees and there were so many ants!! They were all over my shoe and they kept biting my leg. Then when I bent down to sweep them away, alot of mosquitoes surrounded my face! As in I could literally see them! Saw how they squeeze the water out of a rubber block and make patterns on it by putting it through 2 big rollers. Apparently the rubber is of excellent quality when dried, because they use it to make airplane tyres. Went back to hotel for a bath before goinf to Bibik Neo again for dinner. The 8 of us were like aunties rushing to get a table all to ourselves. It was a western dinner this time. Fish & Chips, coke and ice cream. I gave my vanilla half to Yiqi. Went to Mahkota Parade (my other favourite place!) to meet Vivian and Aunty Lily. Aunty Lily went off to find her friends and the three of us shopped around. Vivian gave me a square pig handphone keychain and Yiqi bought a rabbit keychain for her friend. Aunty Lily bought me a sour cream and onion pretzel from Auntie Anne's. After that went back to hotel for a very long discussion in our groups where I nearly fell asleep. Did something after that. Watch Smallville before retiring. ( People, so sad, Ivan didnt get a chance to talk to Yiqi today, thus there were no "Hello Yiqi"s to look forward to.)

Day 3
Last day! Woke up again at 7 and went for breakfast late, and to discover that we were the first ones there. Same old boring breakfast. Went to Kampung Morten and visited Villa Sentosa. It was quite boring as the curator was this old lady and she didnt do anything much. Sat on the swing with Yiqi. Then went to Muzium Budaya to see the history and artefacts of melaka. The entire museum is held up by not one single nail. We went to a handicraft "pasar pagi" and I wanted to buy a personalised magnet but so sad got no time all thanks to that April who chased us up the bus earlier cause she claimed 'we were always late'. Went to shop at some kind of big store which sold many melaka goodies. Shared the 3 for RM20 sesame seed biscuits with the bus driver. Luch was nice, and I ate alot cause the pandan rice was nice. The cendol also not bad, but nothing special. Then we left for Singapore. Again slept, but woke up halfway cause the aircon was not working and the whole bus was so hot!! I was sweating like mad lah! Stopped at Yong Peng again, and I bought a candy lipstick for my sister. Then at the Malaysia Immigration the machine would not accept my thumbprint! Haha was stuck there! Finally got through using the other machine. Then Singappore! There was a slight traffic jam, but I reached home! Ate 6 mini Ba Changs!

The time between now and my last post has been a very tumultuous one. I have had so many things going on... So many tests (and which the results arent something to brag about) and so many news. First of all, my NAPFA 2.4km was TERRIBLE. It had just rained heavily, the ground was slippery and on top of that, i had a freakin STITCH that appeared from the first round!! AAARRRGGHH!! Then good news! Green House got champion after 6 long years!! Yeah!! After that I didnt go for tuition, and LONG BREAK!

Yesterday was a really nice day. My mother's friend owns a restaurant "The Naked Fish Shoppe" at The Grassoots Club, and one of her CC organised a lunch-cum-tea buffet in honour of Mother's Day there. It was a brilliant afternoon as I chowed down my big plate of food. The breaded dory fingers were scrumptious, and I thought the mee siam was not bad. The fried prawns didnt seem too fresh to me, but the scallops were quite nice. But the one thing that I liked the most was the chocolate fondue. I had a nice pot of the lovely, to-die-for chocolate all to myself, thanks to the generosity of my mother's friend. And the chocolate brownies are delicious!! The chocolate chips inside are heavenly, and the whole thing is so moist, yet not overly sweet. The creamy chocolate concoction is pure indulgence. To a chocoholic like me it was heaven yesterday afternoon. Adding to my delight was the fact that during the lucky draw, my sister's number got called and she won a Robinson bath and face towel set. Then my number got called!! SECOND PRIZE!! It was a pair of round mother-of-pearl earrings from Goldheart! It came in this lovely white box with dark blue velvet interior, and wrapped up with a purple Goldheart ribbon. Pretty! After the whole hooha, I went to Concourse, then Suntec City to shop for my mother's birthday-cum-Mother's Day present together with my father and siblings. Then at night, I watched the anoouncement of the election results! I LOVE KHAW BOON WAN'S FACE!! It is sooooo CUTE! I fell asleep after the announcement of PM Lee Hsien Loong's GRC won, and the next thing I knew, it was morning.
